Your hormones quietly shape how you feel every day: your energy, mood, weight, sleep and sex drive. As you get older, these levels can drift out of balance, and plenty of people simply put up with it as ‘part of ageing’. It does not have to be that way.
At House of Health, our consultant-led hormone optimisation service in Birmingham helps men and women feel like themselves again. Led by a consultant endocrinologist, we identify the root cause of your symptoms and treat them safely with appropriate testing and ongoing monitoring.

We know how much a hormone imbalance can take over your life. Whether it comes from the menopause, the andropause (the male equivalent), an underactive thyroid or a metabolic problem, the result feels the same: you stop feeling like yourself. Standard care often aims only to keep you ‘within the normal range’. We look deeper, and our Birmingham clinic lets you skip the long NHS queue and get clear, data-led answers straightaway.
We give you unhurried, in-depth consultations. Your consultant reviews your symptoms, energy levels, diet and full health history before making any recommendations.
We use highly accurate panels to measure your sex hormones, thyroid function, adrenal and metabolic markers, so we build a complete picture of your health.
Where you need it, your consultant prescribes evidence-based treatments such as bioidentical hormone replacement (BHRT) or testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) to restore your balance safely.
Balancing your hormones is only the start. We add tailored lifestyle and nutrition support to protect your long-term energy, healthspan and physical performance.

Once we understand what is driving your symptoms, your consultant recommends the right treatment for you. Every therapy is evidence-based, initiated only where clinically appropriate, and monitored with regular reviews and repeat blood tests to ensure it remains safe and effective.
| Treatment | Who it’s for | What it involves |
|---|---|---|
| Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) | Men with symptoms and confirmed low testosterone (andropause). | Started only after low testosterone is confirmed on blood testing (usually two readings), with a tailored dose and regular monitoring of your levels and wellbeing. |
| HRT & Bioidentical Hormones (BHRT) | Women in perimenopause or menopause. | Evidence-based hormone replacement to ease symptoms such as hot flushes, low mood and poor sleep, matched to you and reviewed regularly for safety. |
| Menopause & Perimenopause Care | Women noticing hormonal changes. | A full assessment of your symptoms and hormones, with HRT where suitable, plus lifestyle and nutrition support, guided by our women’s health expertise. |
| Andropause (Male Menopause) Support | Men with fatigue, low libido or mood changes. | Investigation of the gradual fall in testosterone and other drivers, with treatment and ongoing monitoring where clinically appropriate. |
| Thyroid & Metabolic Optimisation | Anyone with fatigue, weight or energy concerns. | Assessment and management of the thyroid and metabolic markers that affect energy, weight and mood, alongside your hormone care. |
| Performance & Recovery Support | Active adults who want to feel and perform at their best. | Safe, monitored hormone and metabolic support, including guidance for those who have previously used performance-enhancing medications. |
Every treatment is tailored to you and reviewed regularly. We prescribe only where clinically appropriate, and we monitor your levels and well-being throughout.

We rely on high-precision testing to determine exactly what is happening in your endocrine system. Depending on your symptoms, your assessment may include:
Testosterone, free testosterone, oestrogen, progesterone, FSH and LH.
TSH, Free T3 and Free T4.
To map your daily stress-hormone pattern and help reset your natural body clock.
Lipids, homocysteine and hs-CRP, to protect your heart and keep inflammation low.
Such as vitamin D, B12, iron and magnesium, which your body needs for energy and healthy hormone production.
We do not just offer a quick chat. We carry out in-depth clinical assessments to protect both your physical and mental sharpness as you age. We look into concerns such as these:
You sleep a full night but still wake up tired, or you hit a wall every afternoon. Low energy like this often points to a sluggish thyroid or falling sex hormones.
The weight creeps on, especially around your middle, and nothing you try seems to shift it. It can signal insulin resistance, raised cortisol, or dropping testosterone and oestrogen.
You lose your train of thought, forget names, or struggle to concentrate. Your hormones help keep your mind sharp, so a dip can cloud your thinking.
You feel irritable, low or anxious for no clear reason. These shifts often track with the hormonal changes of perimenopause, menopause or andropause.
You lose muscle, recover slowly after exercise, or pick up new aches in your joints. Low testosterone and growth hormone levels usually lie behind this.
You lie awake at night, wake in a sweat, or stir again and again. Imbalances in cortisol, melatonin and oestrogen often disturb your sleep.
You complete a comprehensive symptom and lifestyle questionnaire, so by the time you see your consultant, they already understand your story. We send detailed instructions well before your appointment.
Your consultant takes the time to understand when your symptoms started, what triggers them and what you want to achieve. We never rush you.
Our clinical team takes your blood samples in the clinic and sends them to our premium partner laboratory for accurate, advanced profiling, which gives us a complete baseline of your health.
Once your results come back, your consultant builds a plan around them. It might include HRT, TRT, targeted supplements, or specific metabolic and lifestyle changes.
Optimisation is an ongoing process. We track your progress with regular reviews and repeat blood tests, so your hormone levels stay balanced, safe and effective over the long term.
A clinical assessment, symptom evaluation and individualised diagnostic plan with our consultant.
Advanced testing covering your sex hormones, thyroid, adrenal and key metabolic markers.
A review of your test results, confirmation of your diagnosis and the start of your bespoke hormone protocol.
Ongoing medical management, prescription processing and specialist monitoring for HRT or TRT.
Note: We charge separately for any private HRT or TRT prescriptions and for advanced imaging. Your consultant will explain these costs clearly during your visit, so you always know where you stand.

MRCP (Medicine) · MRCP (Endocrinology)
Dr Sobia Arshad leads hormone and endocrine care at House of Health. As a consultant endocrinologist, she helps both men and women with hormone imbalances, looking after the menopause and perimenopause, the slow fall in testosterone that many men notice with age, thyroid problems, and metabolic issues such as insulin resistance and stubborn weight gain.
She earned two MRCP qualifications from the Royal College of Physicians, one in general medicine and one in endocrinology, and trained across the full range of hormone conditions. Her approach is straightforward: she uses detailed blood tests to identify the cause of your symptoms, explains the results in plain terms, and recommends safe, evidence-based treatment with regular monitoring.

CEO and Co-Founder of House of Health · Qualified Clinical Trichologist
Dr Anita Raja co-founded House of Health and brings more than ten years of experience as an NHS GP. She has a special interest in women’s health, the menopause, and longevity, with a focus on preventive care that helps people feel and function well for longer.
She supports women through perimenopause and menopause, including HRT where it is suitable, and her interest in lifestyle medicine means she looks at the whole picture: your energy, sleep, mood and daily habits, not just your hormone levels. A well-known voice in public health, she regularly appears on the BBC, ITV and Sky News.

Your hormones and your metabolism are closely linked to what you eat, and that is where Dr Pooja Dhir comes in. As a specialist dietitian, she provides the nutrition and weight-management support that sits at the heart of a hormone- and longevity-focused plan.
She has a strong background in clinical research and weight management, and has published in respected journals including BMJ Open and Obesity Reviews. She turns that evidence into clear, practical advice, building eating and lifestyle plans that are realistic and easy to keep up.
Hormone optimisation is a proactive way of looking after your health. Instead of waiting for illness and treating it only when it appears, we fine-tune your hormone levels so you feel and function at your best. The aim is to extend your ‘healthspan’, the number of healthy, active years you enjoy.
Not at all. We support plenty of women through perimenopause and menopause, but men go through their own gradual decline in testosterone, known as the andropause. We assess and treat both men and women.
Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is very safe when it is provided by professionals after a thorough diagnosis of your hormone levels, and with constant monitoring of those levels through your follow-up visits.
Yes, when it is done correctly. Your doctor confirms low testosterone through blood testing (usually two readings), prescribes the correct dose, and continuously monitors your levels throughout treatment. We only start TRT where it is clinically appropriate.
Many people feel better within the first few weeks, with improvements in sleep, energy and mood. Changes to your metabolism and body composition usually take a few months of steady optimisation.
It can play a big part. Problems with the thyroid, insulin, cortisol or other hormones can make it difficult to lose weight. When these imbalances are treated, and the right diet and lifestyle changes are added, many people find it easier to lose weight.
Hormone optimisation is treatment-focused: it addresses specific symptoms through therapies such as TRT, HRT and menopause care. Longevity medicine is proactive and preventative, assessing your overall risk markers and building a plan for healthy ageing. The two work well together, and you can explore our Longevity Medicine service separately.
